![]() Pretty high! Emulators tend to be processor intensive and seems to only offload a portion to the GPU, and Dolphin is no exception. I wonder what the system requirements are on Dolphin? If I can get it running on my HTPC, I can ditch my Wii altogether. Dunno how possible that would actually be (for the Dolphin emulator, it seems like each game needs custom-tailored setting to maximize the effect), but it'd be cool if they could pull it off. It would be interesting if Nintendo released a Wii HD that really was a Wii that rendered all existing games in HD while changing nothing else. There are no PS2 games that support 1080p, however. As for why the Wii can't run at a resolution higher than 480p that has to do with the framebuffer being only 3 Mb, which just isn't large enough to contain a resolution higher than 480p. Finally, the wizards at Polyphony Digital managed to wrangle Gran Turismo 4 (as well as Tourist Trophy, aka GT4 on motorcycles) into running in 1080i. In addition, God of War II had a hidden code that enabled it to run in 720p at a lower framerate (to the best of my knowledge, this was the only title that supported 720p). Many PS2 games supported 480p it wasn't rare at all ( full list). Giving the Wii more graphical power would have made much more expensive. Most games did not even have an internal resolution of 480i, but rather 640x400 interlaced. The Wii was never meant to do HD because Nintendo wanted to keep it at a much lower price point than the other consoles. Did you mean to say PS3? The highest resolution the PS2 was capable of doing was 480p, and that was only on a few select games (the only one that comes to mind is Soul Calibur II). ![]()
